FORESEA (Funding Ocean Renewable Energy through Strategic European Action) is an €11m Interreg North West Europe project. Its helps bring offshore renewable energy technologies to the market by providing free access to North-West Europe’s world-leading network of test centres.
The network of test centres includes the following:
- European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC): Orkney Islands, UK
- SmartBay: Galway, Ireland
- SEM-REV: Nantes, France
- Dutch Marine Energy Centre: Alkmaar, Netherlands
Since its launch in 2016, demand for testing through FORESEA has been very high. Furthermore, the project has resulted in a significant increase in real-sea testing activity in the ocean energy sector.
To date, 14 technology demonstration projects have successfully secured support packages through FORESEA. Ten of these projects are either underway or are already completed. Developers will secure several more support packages before the programme’s conclusion at the end of 2019.
The project has run four Calls for applications focusing on trial and validation of ocean energy devices and has recently closed its latest Call at the end of June, where it received a further 11 applications for support packages across the four partner infrastructures included in the FORESEA project.
Before the project ends in late 2019, a further 8 developers and companies will receive support through the project in Ireland. These projects range from trial and demonstration of ocean energy devices and sub-components, data visualisation, and environmental monitoring services in the ocean energy sector across various technology readiness levels.
